Le Bug Show 2016 VW Meeting Spa Belgium

Hello VW Fans.

I had good times at Le Bug Show 2013, 2014, 2015 and so Spa was calling me last weekend.

I visited the VW Bug Show #24 at Circuit de Spa Francorchamps in Belgium on Saturday the 6th August 2016.

The last years I made the 900 kilometer return trip with my 59 and 65 Beetles but this year I had not much time and so I took the new Golf.

I arrived at 7:45 a.m. at the Camping P14 gate but could not enter because I had no ticket and there was no ticket office. Then I drove to the P1 Camping which is now a new big car park and I got a ticket there.

Changes in 2016 (see also new circuit map):
-P1 Camping was closed for camping and is now a new car park for visitors. In my opinion, P1 Camping was much of the fun of “Le Bug Show” and it is now closed!
-P14 Camping was new and it is very far away from “Le Bug Show”.
-The Tunnel gateway to the Racetrack was only a one way street and so there are long ways to drive.
-The entrance price in 2015 was 18 EUR and 2016 is was 20 EUR. This means the “Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps organization” charged 2 EUR extra for “the new car park at P1”.
-All these changes have been done by Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps organization possible to keep the party level down.
-I guess, the Belgian Buggy & VW club team would also prefer “the good old times” as I do.

Anyway, at 8:00 a.m. some VW fans were already waiting before “the Tunnel entrance” (Passage Sous La Piste) to get in for a good place at the Show & Shine area.

I walked a bit uphill to Camping P3 which is in the forest. It was foggy and at about 9:00 a.m. the sun came through the trees. Awesome!

Then I had an uphill lift with a lowered VW Beetle from Camping P3 to Camping P15. From there I walked downhill to the racetrack. It is very pleasant around the race track early in the morning. I had a look at the racing Beetles and vintage Formula Vee VWs.

Later the VW enthusiasts made a tour on the Spa race track and I checked out the show and shine areas and spare parts. This year I had a long lunch break within the drag race demonstration because I was tired.

At 3:30 p.m. the superb VW parade started, but in the opposite direction as the years before.

After the end of the parade there was not much fun around P1 Camping as it used to be, because the exit was not thought the tunnel, so I left the show and drove home. On the way, I passed the Total Station and there was a huge traffic jam to new P14 Camping.

I can still recommend the Bug Show, but the meeting lost a lot of spirit due to the new camping changes.
