I visited #35 Maikäfertreffen VW Meeting in Hannover on May 1 2018.
I arrived at 10:30, later than usual, because I was in hospital and afterwards 5 weeks in a reha clinic where I checkout out at 6:00. After 2h in a taxi, breakfast and a nice 1,5h ride in my 1965 Beetle I breathed aircooled air.
The traffic was not that bad and I quickly parked my Beetle and enjoyed the meeting.
Below a selection of 77 Maikäfertreffen 2018 pictures in order as taken.

Thanks for the detailed pictures and explanations. I am starting to restore a 1969 VW Käfer built here in Mexico with matching engine numbers. I was wondering about the Saxomat option of your red 1965. I thought that only 256 semiautomatic VWs were made, but probably this was a common option in Germany. How common was it? Is it feasible to get a Saxomat device these days and retrofit it ?
Another question. One of the previous owners painted my car white, but the original color is probably Chianti or similar (“Guinda” in Spanish). Do you know of an equivalence table of VW color codes to modern paint standards (Pantone, for instance) so I could restore it to the exact color it had when it left the plant in Puebla?
Vielen Danke! Happy days and all the best for you in 2019.
Hello Manuel,
I do not know how many Saxomat Volkswagen sold. The most important parts for Saxomat are dead after about 130000 Kilometers and not available. The original classic VW color code is still offered by many manufacturers today so there is no need to choose something “like that”.
Good Luck, Lutz
